Frequently Asked Questions

Question: I am concerned about the environment. Are your blinds made from sustainable resource Timbers?

Answer: This company has a policy of not using timbers that have negative impacts on the environment. We also do not use endangered or protected species of wood, such as Ramin, no matter under what pseudonym it enters this country. Furthermore, our UV cured paints do not release solvents into the atmosphere.

Question: How long after I place my order, can I receive my blinds?

Answer: Shipping of your order will take approximately two weeks after full payment. Delivery speed may vary due to delivery distance and other unforeseen circumstances.

Question: What is the widest width of blind I can purchase?

Answer:2400mm is the maximum width available. Depending on the window frame structure, any order wider than 2400mm can be satisfied by two or three separate blinds.

Question: How often do I need to repaint the blinds?

Answer: Since all our blinds are coated with UV or PU paint, no repainting is required.

Question: Do Timber Blinds collect dust, like curtains?

Answer: Our blinds require less care and maintenance than curtains, however it is recommended to clean the blinds using a duster every once in a while.

Question: Do your blinds have warping problems?

Answer: Our real wood blinds are made of natural wood with grain and colour variation. Part of this individuality of character may show itself in slight but rare warping, and should not be considered a defect.

Question: What warranty comes with Timber Blinds?

Answer: We offer a 12-month warranty against defects in material and workmanship. This warranty is extended to you as the original purchaser only. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear or any damage or loss caused by abuse or misuse or improper installation. To obtain service under warranty, please return your blinds, with the original sales receipt, to Timber Blinds Express. You will be solely responsible for the cost of transporting the blinds to and from Timber Blinds Express.

Question: Are Timber Blinds suitable for bathrooms, toilet and laundry?

Answer:Timber blinds are suitable for bathrooms, toilets and laundry rooms. We can provide a special edge sealant upon request. We recommend the use of PVC blinds for rooms that are steamy or poorly ventilated.

Question: Do Timber Blinds keep heat out in summer and retain warmth in winter?

Answer: Wood has a very good “R” or insulation rating. A cedar slat of standard thickness is said to have better insulation properties than a standard cavity brick. A well fitted timber blind, when properly used, is highly effective in reducing heating costs in winter and cooling costs in summer.

Question: Are Cedar blinds better quality than Basswood Blinds?

Answer:Our Cedar and Basswood blinds have identical components, coating finish, and build quality. The difference between the blinds lie in the look, the size of slats, and the hardness of the wood. See below for a comparison chart:

  Cedar Slat Basswood Slat
Width 46mm 50mm
Thickness 4mm 3mm
Grain Prominent-variable Fine-uniformed
Hardness Softer Much Harder
Insulation Slightly better than Basswood Good Properties

Overall, Cedar is the traditional, high quality, top-of-the-tree timber blind. However, a well-made and well-finished Basswood blind these days is a worthy competitor. If you like the natural variability of wood, go for Cedar. If you like a more uniformed look, choose Basswood.

Question: What is the maximum length of blind you can supply?

Answer: There is no limitation on the maximum length of the blinds. However, there are size limitations due to weight. Any blind orders that exceed 3.6sqm will void the warranty on the lift cord lock mechanism.

Question: What are the differences between lacquered (painted) and the oiled type of blinds?

Answer:One type of blind has has the raw slat coated with an oil which soaks into the wood and gives a very natural appearance for approximately a year or so. By this time, the oil has evaporated out of the wood and the slats begin to look very dry and sometimes patchy and require to be reoiled with something like Scandinavian or Danish oil and the process is repeated throughout the life of the blind. Wood thus coated has fine fibres sticking up from it's surface making them difficult to clean as these fibres hold the dust. This type of coating also should it accidentally get raindrops on it will show water stain marks. This coating is usually a matte finish.

Lacquered (painted) blinds have two kinds of coatings. One is a standard spray on, usually polyurethane coating, or a Ultra Violet cured lacquered coating.

We use the latter, which is state-of-the-art in the world today. This type of coating does not dry by evaporation of solvents, but contains photo-reactors which cause this paint to instantly cure and harden when passed under a powerful Ultra Violet light during the coating process, similar to modern dental fillings. The coating surface is very smooth, has no pores or capillaries and whilst it will not repel dust, it does not retain it and is very easily cleaned with a duster or if necessary, a damp cloth. Our coating has an approximate gloss factor of 30% and never needs oiling or coating again.

Question: Why should I buy blinds from Timber Blinds Express rather than other suppliers?

Answer: We believe that, dollar-for-dollar, our blinds are the best quality timber binds available in the market place today. Our competitors may make a similar claim, but you ask them the questions and look for yourself.

Most of our competitors supply cedar slats that are only 2.9 to 3.2mm thick – ours are 4mm. Their coatings are thin and variable, components are of a poor quality, and their colour grading is poor or non-existent. The same could be said about their Basswood blinds.

They are a “cheap” blind. And those competitors that do have a product similar to ours cannot match our prices. We try very hard to supply a very high quality product that can stand up favourably against any opposition in the market place today.

Try us – you will not be disappointed.
